Hi!
Thanks for submitting your questions.
Regarding logging:
The rebex and putty plugin handle logging quite differently and I'm afraid they can't really be compared to each other.
"Logging" in rebex is more about the data sent/received for diagnostics and "Recording" is more about what data is displayed and entered. putty doesn't make this distinction and combines both in the logging terminology.
So I guess a session recording would be a better fit here. The result is a .ansi file which can be played back in the dashboard but you can also convert a session recording to a text file (also automatically when the session has been ended).
Regarding the terminal settings:
What you define in the Default Settings, will be used if you create new connections. It doesn't affect the configurations of existing connections. So the overrides - as you already mentioned - is the way to go. I'm not sure what "extra functionality" of the overrides you are referring to. In overrides you can selectively override one or more settings to your liking. Users mostly use it to override font, color schemes and settings related to the appearance of the connection.
I hope this information helps. If you have more questions, feel free to reply.
Regards,
Stefan
Thank you for your response. "Recording" is exactly what I was looking for and actually adds some extra benefits. I need to play around with it a bit more but I am having trouble with seeing the logs inside of the application. I see them listed in the dashboard for the connection but in the preview window it just says 'Please select a single log file'. I can double click the text log to open in notepad.
Terminal Settings- that makes sense. Its a shame there is no way to have my own custom settings, that I can then override.
The extra functionality I was referring to was just the functionality that overrides brings.
Thanks for your help
Regarding the log files in the dashboard: if you select a file it should show the content in the bottom panel. If that's not the case, please ensure you are running the latest version and if that still doesn't work, please open a support ticket.
Regarding the overrides: I'm still not sure what's missing. Are you saying that the overrides you defined are not applied?
At some point I have seen the recordings playable in the bottom panel, but at the moment, after I disconnect from a session, I dont see the recordings, and on the refresh button I get an alert symbol which when I hover over it, says 'Could not find part of the path' then lists the file path. If I click the refresh button, the warning icon disappears and the recordings (text and ansi) appear, but neither are previewable in the lower panel.
I am configuring the logging/recording using overrides
Any ideas?
I am using version 7.3.50219, its difficult for me to upgrade as it is managed by my organisation.
The version you are using is quite old and if I remember correctly there has been an issue with the overrides for the logging/recording path.
Can you verify what log/recording directory is configured in the connection? If the path is not set correctly, it will not show anything in the dashboard. If no path is configured, you will be asked for a path to save the recording but it's then not really associated with the connection unless the same path is configured in the connection.
Once you confirmed that, try setting it using the override. If that doesn't work with the version you are using, try using the latest release.
In the connection itself nothing is set for logging, the path is blank and all the boxes are unticked.
In the override the path is set to

I always load the overrride without holding ALT
I guess you haven't tried the latest release yet, right?
no not yet, I've made a request for the newest version
It seems to work correctly if I set the path in the connection itself as well as specifying the options from my screenshot as overrides. Is there anyway to set the path for all of my connections, as it doesnt seem to be an inherited setting.
Is this behavior you describe in the latest release? If I'm not mistaken, the latest release should fix that.
No I am still on the older release. I will wait until I can get it updated.
Many thanks for your help and advice.

I am using a shared documents file
I would some advice for configuring logging for SSH, firstly what logging level should I be using to achieve the 'all session output' in putty?
I think I am doing something wrong or not understanding something about the application. I was hoping that I could configure different colour settings for my user that are different to other users. I thought these would be set in Application-Edit Default Settings and they would be the default colours for all the connections when I open them. Then I would like to use an override to enable logging and adjust the colour so that I could easily tell the session was being logged.
It seems as though the 'Edit Default Settings' isnt doing what I expected, so I have to use the override to adjust my colours and make it so overrides are always on (no alt) but then I dont get the extra functionality of the overrides.
Is there a way to set MY default settings so that I can then use the overrides feature to change settings adhoc?
